Lights On 2015

Come to Town Hall for lots of fun for the whole family on Halloween.    The Town of James Island's Children's Commission and the Kaleidoscope Afterschool Program, presents Lights On 2015 from 10 a.m. to 12:00 noon, on Saturday, October 31, 10 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  Click on the flyer for activities.

Community Hero Award  

Please Nominate your Community Hero today!

The Community Hero Award allows the Town of James Island to acknowledge and thank volunteers who have given significant time, talent and energy to our community over the course of at least one year's time. Candidates should demonstrate evidence of volunteer activity in the areas of:

  • Leadership
  • Community Service
  • Mobilizing the generations by contributing to youth and adults working together in partnership within the community.


The Community Hero Award period runs from January 1 through December 31.  Nominations may be submitted anytime throughout the year.

Severe Storm Update - OPCON 5 

Town Resumes Normal Operations

The Town of James Island has resumed normal operations, closed its Municipal Emergency Operations Center (MEOC), and returned to OPCON 5.  While Charleston County has moved to OPCON 1 and is monitoring the flood threat to rivers across Charleston County, the threat of any more flash flooding to James Island is currently very low.

The Charleston County Building Services Damage Assessment Team is in the process of evaluating damage to structures on James Island. Information on Federal assistance in relation to the severe flooding incident:

Early registration is open for the State of South Carolina for flood damage, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

Currently, Charleston, County is on the list of eligible counties for federal declaration for Individual Assistance. Please visit the FEMA website listed below and apply online to start your application. When asked to choose a disaster, select Disaster has occurred, but not in the list. You may also call the phone number below.


Those without Internet access, the Charleston County Public Library on Camp Road has computers with Internet access that may be utilized.

Town Council Meeting

The Town Council will hold its regularly scheduled Town Council meeting on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. Highlights of the meeting includes a Public Hearing for a Request to rezone properties located at 521 Harbor View Circle, 541 Harbor View Circle, and 527 Harbor View Circle from Low-Density Suburban Residential (RSL) to Residential Office (OR) District.
