NEWS RELEASE -- TOJI MOVES TO OPCON 2 IN PREPARATION FOR HURRICANE MATTHEW
The Town of James Island is currently operating at OPCON 2 in preparation for Hurricane Matthew. Hurricane Matthew is expected to be a category 2 or 3 hurricane when it reaches James Island later this week. Governor Haley is expected to issue an evacuation order for the Charleston area today, Wednesday, October 5th at 3:00 p.m.
After the evacuation order at 3:00 p.m., the evacuation route for James Island will be:
Take SC 171 (Folly Road) to US 17.
Take US 17 South to I-526 east to the reversed lanes of I-26
If you leave before 3:00, you may choose your own route.
Gasoline is available on James Island. While gas stations are sometimes running out, new supplies continue to arrive in the Lowcountry.
Sand and sandbags are now available at Dock Street Park at 1433 Patterson Avenue. The Town has ordered more sand and sand bags for Pinckney Park at 461 Fort Johnson Road. Please watch for further updates on sand and sandbag supplies.
