Annexation

Many people often ask if they can annex into the Town of James Island.

If you currently reside in the City of Charleston, you are not eligible to annex your property into the Town's municipal limits.

The Town continues to work hard towards annexing unincorporated property here on James Island back into the Town's jurisdiction. This must be done with legislative change. Our local representatives in the Statehouse continue to introduce bills that we hope will one day soon make comprehensive annexation on James Island a reality.

Until then, if you live in unincorporated Charleston County on James Island and want to be a part of the Town, you may be eligible under current annexation laws. Contact Town Hall for more information.
