Reporting Tips

Sometimes you need to report activities that may be code violations for us to investigate.  Please remember that we never share the information of a complaintant.  We take code investigations seriously and rely on you to let us know when you see something wrong.  Here are some tips to report a suspected code violation:

Please try to provide as many details as possible.  We'll need the address at least, but you might know the neighborhood, tax map number, street intersection, or location on the street.  Landmarks and the lane of travel can help.  Try to give us the location on lot where the issue is located.  Is it in the front or back yard?  We appreciate any help you can give us to find the problem!

Please try to give us a full description of the activity that you think is the problem.  We may reach-out to ask more detailed questions.  Remember, we will not give out your information and also note that not all activity will be against our code.  We will investigate to make sure.

If it is applicable, let us know the approximate time that the activity occurs.  Is it in the morning, lunchtime, or afternoon?  Does it only happen at night?  Does it only occur on the weekends?  About how long does the activity that may be an issue last?  Is it constant or does it only happen for a specific period of time.

Also, did it just start when a new neighbor moved in?

We'll try to pinpoint the issue and this may be important information!

If you’ve noticed that there is a good time to catch the resident at the property, that will help us contact them.  If you know other contact information, we will try to reach them that way too.  Again, we will not tell them your information.

Are there any other details that might help us?  Please let us know if there is a history of issues at this property.  Or maybe you’ve seen dogs or other concerns that we should be aware of when we investigate.  Thank you so much for any help you can give us!

Code investigations take time!  Please understand that, in the worst-case scenario, we are essentially building a case with evidence for the court.  Please feel free to contact the Code Enforcement Department to check on the status of your report.
