The Town of James Island protects trees 18" DBH (diameter at breast height) or greater. Please contact Town Planning Staff with any questions pertaining to grand tree removal.

Tree Trimming
Dominion Energy is pruning the trees on James Island as a part of their utility vegetation maintenance program. Please visit their website here for more information on this program their pruning guidelines.
If you'd like to talk to someone about the trees in your yard, you can call Dominion Energy at 1-800-251-7234 and place a work order to have an arborist come assess your trees before they're trimmed. They will be mailing postcards approximately 2 weeks in advance of trimming. If you do not receive a postcard and think you should have, please also contact 1-800-251-7234 and speak with a representative. It's important to note if you signed up for electronic communication with Dominion, you will NOT be receiving a postcard but will receive an email instead.
